The BEAM Story
Beam Orthodontics is a lifelong dream transformed to reality. Dr. Schaefer has wanted his own private orthodontics office for years (as evidenced by the 1996 newspaper displayed here), a place where people of all ages can visit to reap the benefits of quality orthodontics. We are local, so while building Beam we sought locals to help us. One such person was Mike Nelson of Solana Beach and owner of branding agency type g (typeg.com). Mike helped us create our brand and tell our story. Dr. Schaefer will be the only orthodontist you will ever see at Beam, but he went back and forth on naming the office after himself. He ultimately decided he wanted to name the office something fun, short, and sweet. He came up with Beam because he is committed to creating smiles for his patients that beam like a light. He also studied engineering in college, so the structural aspects of beams appealed to him. We want our office to signify structure and alignment. The 32 dots around the logo represent the 32 teeth and the glow of a happy patient. The Schaefer family and the team they hire will stand behind the Beam Orthodontics brand and the core values it represents.
Board Certified Orthodontist, Dad, Ambassador of Fun
My name is Jeffery Schaefer and I am a board certified orthodontist since 2013. Born and raised in Texas, I joke that I peaked in high school because I was a wide receiver on a state championship football team. I went on to attend Texas A&M earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. During college, I spent one year as an intern at Walt Disney World. Upon graduation, I spent six months in New Zealand living in a van and two tents, working on vineyards, along with eight friends from high school. It was not until I turned 25 that I came full circle on my high school dream to become an orthodontist. I attended the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, and in the process of becoming a dentist in 2010 and an orthodontist in 2012, I met my dear wife Diana (and fellow Beam Teamer).

My experiences in Florida and New Zealand are eventually what led me to Encinitas. I’m a coastal person and have always loved California. It is with great enthusiasm that I can say I did not peak in high school. With my wife and three kiddos (5,4 and 1) standing by my side, I’m happy to say the opening of our very own orthodontics practice in Encinitas is our high point. But we believe the peak is years from now, and we cannot wait to support our city as our office grows.

I am committed to leading our team in the pursuit of perfection, and I invest time on a weekly basis expanding my orthodontic education. I am a member of local study groups as well as the national, state, and local dental societies. I will be there every appointment from the initial diagnosis and treatment until the very last retainer check to ensure treatment expectations are exceeded and retained. I will stand by my work and the work of my team, and I hope to see a lot of beaming smiles while out and about around town.
Chief Marketing Officer, Mom, Ambassador of Rules
My name is Diana Schaefer and I am a registered dental hygienist and Dr. Schaefer’s wife. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I graduated with a degree in Health & Kinesiology at Sam Houston State University. I then earned my dual degree in Dental Hygiene at The University of Texas School of Dentistry. This is where I met Dr. Schaefer.

I believe in educating the community on the benefits of proper oral health. Education and implementation are keys in achieving better oral hygiene. I attend continuing education courses regularly to learn new techniques to treat my patients. My life is enriched by serving others. We serve in our church’s kids ministry, and we are visiting local schools presenting to kids a fun and educational way to care for their teeth. My focus is a Spanish version for children from South America new to California.

While I play a critical role at Beam, my main priorities are 5,4 and 1, our children Noah Leah, and Selah…and Olive, our adorable mini sheepadoodle.
Treatment Coordinator, Alika, Ambassador of Friendliness
My name is Alika, I was born and raised in San Jose, California, and graduated from Sacramento State, with a bachelors in Psychology. I worked in the child care industry for 10 years and that is how I met Dr. Schaefer and Diana, teaching their two wonderful kids Noah and Leah. Recently I decided to change my career path and move into orthodontics. I have always had an interest in health and medicine and love helping people. So joining the BEAM Team seemed like the perfect fit. Since moving down here to San Diego, BEAM has become my second family and that is why I love working here. The BEAM Team does a great job at making sure that everyone who walks through their doors feels like they are apart of a community. We really strive to give all our patients their best smile from the inside out.
Schedule Coordinator, Valerie, Ambassador of Hope
My name is Valerie, I was born and raised in Houston, TX.  I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Anthropology with a focus in ASL. This is my second time living in California and it is great to be back! Being in California has been such an adventure and I cannot wait to explore more of this beautiful state. I am an avid reader, love watching movies with my husband, and taking our dog, Tank, to the beach. Although I do not have a background in Orthodontics, I am excited to have gained knowledge and a better understanding to oral health. Becoming one of BEAM’s scheduling coordinators has opened by eyes to the world of orthodontics and I am grateful to see our patients thrive during their treatment with us. I am hopeful that mine and my family’s time here in California will be a continuous adventure and looking forward to what comes next.
Schedule Coordinator, Pam, Ambassador of Charm
Hi, my name is Pam! I was born and raised in Shelby, North Carolina. I joined the Marine Corps at 18 and was stationed here in California at Camp Pendleton. My family and I have moved around a lot due to the Military, and are back in California for a second time. We love all that southern California has to offer and make sure to get out and explore often! I have a BIG family with my husband, 3 kiddos, and 9 pets ( 3 cats, 1 dog, 4 snakes, and 1 frog). Being a big family person is what brought me to Beam. I could tell right away that the Beam team is one big family! With this being my first opportunity in the Orthodontic field, I am learning lots each and every day! I look forward to all the knowledge I will continue to gain here. In my spare time I love to read, go antiquing, and spend time with my family. I look forward to seeing everyone’s smile as they come through the door!
Certified Orthodontic Assistant, Luna, Ambassador of Family
I attended Palomar College for biology and chemistry, I then decided to pursue career in dental assisting and attended Brightwood College. I have been in the dental field for about two years now and have enjoyed every second of it. I chose orthodontics because I myself had braces and for me that feeling of having beautiful teeth after it was all said it done was a huge confident boost, and I enjoying making the patients feel the same. Dr. Schaefer and his wife are truly a blessing to work with and such an amazing team. I am so excited to be part of the Beam Team this has been a great start to a beautiful adventure. Things I enjoy on my off time are hiking, working out, playing with my 5 pets(2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 tortoise), being with family & friends and enjoying what life has to offer. “Let It Beam”....
Records Coordinator, Vanessa, Ambassador of Laughter

Hi there! I'm Vanessa, your records technician and sterilization expert at BEAM. I'm from Oceanside and my experience within dentistry is approaching 10 years.  I attended UEI College in San Marcos studying dental assisting.  My focus at our practice is sterilizing instruments and ensuring that our infection control is above and above the universal precaution standards set forth by OSHA and the CDC.

I also will work with you at your initial visit, assisting Dr. Schaefer in diagnosing and treating your case by taking your initial photos, x-rays, and intraoral scans.  I will not be taking your impressions, because at Beam, we don't take impressions anymore.  You are in luck with our digital intraoral iTero scanner.

I have four wonderful kids and my boyfriend and I spend as much time as we can with them in our free time.  Family time is our hobby.  I cook a lot and love to learn new things.  At the office, you will always see me smiling and laughing.

My personal motto is to never let anyone bring you down and to always stay positive. We will get through this!

Orthodontic Assistant, Anna, Ambassador of Love
My name is Anna. I am a registered dental assistant, and have been in the dental field for over 30 years. I worked 10 years in pediatric dentistry and over 20 years in orthodontics.

This job is more passion than work to me. To see all of the incredible changes in each and every patient, the ways our work can boost their confidence and self-esteem, and the knowledge that we will be there for them through their whole journey, it is more than rewarding.

The interpersonal relationships you can make are the best! I can honestly say I love each of those in my care. My purpose in life is to serve.

The ‘Beam Team’ is dedicated to treating each other and every one of our patients like family, while provided professional service and having fun along the way. After many years in this industry, I know that this is the perfect place for me—and, I am exceedingly thankful to be here.

My biggest blessings in life are my family and friends. I have been married to my best friend for over 35 years. We have two sons, two daughters-in-law, one two-year-old grandson, and of course our two dogs. In my off hours, I enjoy walks at the beach, going to concerts, and crafting.

Orthodontic Assistant, Karen, Ambassador of Kindness
Hi, my name is Karen!

I love Rotties, running, and roller blading. I realized I wanted to study dentistry when I was in high school. I am passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in my community. I believe oral health is fundamental for everyone, and I am happy to be part of this rewarding field.

I am a recent graduate from Dental Assistant School. I'm currently working to pursue and grow in my orthodontics career. I am grateful to be starting my dental journey in the best office with Dr. Schaefer, Diana and this amazing team.
Certified Orthodontic Assistant, Connie, Ambassador of Sparkle MacGyver
My name is Connie. Born and raised in Oceanside, CA, my career in the dental field spans over two decades.  I am a wife and mother to three beautiful girls and a grandma to a precious grandson.  I enjoy spending time with all my babies and creating memories with them.  I also enjoy riding my motorcycle, playing pool, and competing in local and national tournaments.

Working for Beam Orthodontics has been a blessing.  I have learned so much and continue to learn and grow at the practice.  If the office needs something repaired, I am the one to fix it.  Beam has become my second family, and I enjoy the entire Beam Team so much.

This is me - a little bit of crazy, little bit of loud, and a whole lot of bling/love.
